Crackdown On Talent-Scamming Continues: Fourth LA Talent Manager Charged

(Got this in an email...thought I'd share in hopes to prevent people from getting scammed)

Crackdown On Talent-Scamming Continues: Fourth LA Talent Manager Charged
By Nellie Andreeva

The Los Angeles city attorney's office has charged yet another Hollywood talent manager with violating the state's Krekorian Talent Scam Prevention Act of 2009. Veteran manager Patrick W. O'Brien of Pat O'Brien Talent Management and Talent Marketing and Promotions Inc. has been charged with six criminal counts, including grand theft, false advertising, operating an advance-fee talent representation service and failing to file a $50,000 bond with the state Labor Commission. The charges stem from a complaint filed by an Arizona mother who came to LA with her 15-year-old son to audition in a teen sitcom upon invitational by O'Brien's company. The mother alleges the audition was just a ploy to get her to sign a management contract with O'Brien and pay almost $3,000 for a photo shoot and acting classes. (The woman has since been reimbursed by O'Brien.) If convicted on all counts, O'Brien could face up to five years in jail and $51,000 in fines. In an interview with LA Times, O'Brien called the criminal charges baseless. "The city attorney's office is trying to regulate the business so much, it's making it difficult for legitimate companies to operate."

O'Brien is the fourth talent manager charged with talent scamming under the Krekorian Act that prohibits talent reps from charging advance fees. The first one, David Askaryar of Hollywood Stars Management Inc. and VIP Talent Web Inc., last week pleaded no contest to one count of operating an advance-fee talent representation service and one count of operating a talent listing service without a bond. On the first count, he was sentenced to 36 months' probation, ordered to shut down his businesses, and banned from owning, operating, or being employed by any talent service. On the second count, he was sentenced to 36 months probation, ordered to serve 90 days in jail or perform 30 days of community service, and ordered to pay $819 in restitution to three victims and another $3,000 in investigative costs. The other two charged so far are Ricardo Macias, owner of ActorsOnSet.com, and Nicholas (Nick) Roses, manager at Luber Roklin who operated his acting boot camp business through his own company. Those cases are still being prosecuted.

Hopefully you con-artists will wake up and KNOW that we are on to you! Is scamming innocent people out of their money REALLY worth going to jail for???

FYI: Talent managers and agents are not allowed to ask/demand ADVANCE PAY! They are to get paid when you get paid...not before...ever! They cant choose companies FOR YOU (services such as acting class, dance class, photography services, etc...) They can suggest or refer a company but it is up to YOU on who you choose to hire.

YOUR MANAGER is there to assist you...NOT BULLY YOU!

If you know of any scam agents/managers, PLEASE REPORT THEM to your local authorities! We need to work together to crack down on these SCAMS!!!

Legend Clarence Clemons dies of complications from stroke

Although we know that death is inevitable, it still shocks us when it happens to those who paved the road for us...our legends. They are so talented and we looked up to them for so many years that we tend to think they are invincible. Then suddenly, we lose them because all along, they were human.

Another legend lost...but his talent will live on in today's music and in the hearts of his fans....

He was the spirit of the E Street Band, and the oaken staff that Bruce Springsteen leaned on.

Clarence Clemons — the Big Man with the big horn — died yesterday of complications from a stroke he suffered last weekend. He was 69.

“Clarence lived a wonderful life,” Bruce Springsteen said in a statement last night. “He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage.”

News of Clemons’ death was first reported last night on nj.com, The Star-Ledger’s real-time news website.Link

“He was the kahuna of surf and soul and a man that had love in his heart and, always, a smile on his face. He was my brother — my musical brother,” said original E Street Band drummer Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez.

Steve Harvey’s ‘Family Feud’ moving to Atlanta

CREDIT: Family Feud

CREDIT: Family Feud

The game show 'Family Feud' is coming/moving to Atlanta and Steve Harvey will be it's host! I dont know about you but I grew up watching 'Family Feud' and love it. It always tested my common sense and knowledge. To be quite frank, I always got the top answers (even as a kid) WHOOP WHOOP! =)

Anyways, Im excited about this and Im sure most Atlanta residents who love Family Feud are excited as well. Read the original story below or click here:

Atlanta comic Steve Harvey, who hosts his nationally syndicated radio show out of Buckhead, spent a few weeks last year taping 180-plus episodes of “Family Feud” out of Orlando for his first season as host.

But with the syndicated game show seeing improved ratings under the helm of Harvey, he used his influence to convince the producers to move the show to Atlanta.

Harvey replaced actor John O’Hurley as host and has been given the freedom to pepper in his own brand of physical and verbal humor into the game.

I will add more details as I get them. I am also seeking information about how to be in the studio audience as well as contestants on this classic game show, which has seen several hosts over the decades.

Harvey, heard locally no Majic 107.5/97.5, is also promoting his own production operation called Green Screen Studios, where “Family Feud” will be produced. Here are details from his press release today.

Harvey expands the spotlight on Atlanta as a hub for Hollywood talent and work with the creation of his Green Screen Studio. With over two decades of experience entertaining audiences worldwide on stage, television and movie screens, radio and in books as a comedian, writer, producer and more, Steve Harvey brings more Hollywood-quality offerings home to the South, creating a big, versatile space that’s already been the site for numerous corporate and network video and photo work

Says Harvey, “It only feels natural to provide a production need in a growing entertainment market like Atlanta, and offer a well-sized alternative to the smaller green screen rooms I’ve seen.” Providing a full range of amenities to inspire and produce the best photos, video or web content, Steve Harvey’s Green Screen Studio boasts flexibility and the space to shoot almost anything without overwhelming, serving utmost convenience and manageability in 1405 square feet of working space. The 3-sided cyc wall green screen area measures 665 square feet, with an additional open area of 740 square feet, while the rest of the stage area includes a lighting grid with power, sound room and control room. Steve Harvey’s Green Screen Studio also features numerous comforts with a gym, kitchen, video security, ample office space, ISDN line availability, free Wi-Fi/DSL internet, free local and long distance calling, a TriCaster unit for live web streaming, and more. From photo shoots to videos, Steve Harvey has hosted a variety of projects at his Green Screen Studio including Family Feud, BET, State Farm, Premiere Radio Networks, and Gospel Music Channel. A tour or booking of Steve Harvey’s Green Screen Studio in Atlanta can be arranged by contacting Rafael Ortiz-Guzman at 404-995-1609 or Leonard McGee at 404-995-1607.
